Unleashing The Potential

Meet Lesly Cristina, one of our most outstanding students. Her tenacity and effort have led her to overcome obstacles and make a better life for herself and her family. With more than nine years of active participation in after-school activities through our programs, Lesly is getting closer and closer to one of the most crucial stages of her life: a degree and a career in health care.

Lesly has lived her whole life in one of the most economically deprived neighborhoods in Granada. Her family has fought a constant battle to ensure a proper education for her and has joined their efforts with ours at Empowerment International. Lesly's mother, upon hearing about the progress made by other students of "La Escuelita," approached us with the hope of providing her children with the necessary support to free them from the poverty all around them.

Lesly’s mother, Johana, is a housewife, and her father works as a bricklayer. Their income has never been enough to support their three children as much as they wished to.

"It has been a difficult road for us, facing economic challenges and job uncertainty for my husband. However, thanks to the support of the foundation, our children are on their way to a better future, something we could not have offered them otherwise." - Johana (Lesly's mother)

Lesly’s parents understood that the most valuable investment they could make was in their children's education, with the hope of prosperity in the future for the whole family. They took part in parent meetings and made sure of their children's participation in every educational and personal development activity available, all of which were driven by an unwavering love for their family.

Guided by her parents, today, Lesly is a shining star in her nursing degree class. She has committed herself to the values of a person who gives medical care, with compassion and humility inherent in the career she has chosen. These qualities are a constant reminder to her of a deep commitment to community service.

"I feel happy and deeply grateful to be part of the foundation. The support I have received has been invaluable to me and my family. I want to give back by giving my best." -Lesly.
